Announcements: June, 2010

Welcome DBG’s REU summer student, Alexander Cho! June 29th, 2010

Alexander Cho is a sophmore at Bunker Hill Community College, where he is currently focusing on a Biology Transfer Degree. At Harvard’s Disease Biophysics Group, he is working on encapsulating nanofibers into hydrogels to control the direction of the swelling, so it can be used as a scaffold for tissue engineering. He is working with Leila Deravi and Holly McIlwee. Thank you, Leila and Holly, for assisting Prof. Parker in mentoring Alex and best wishes to Alex’s continued success!

Welcome DBG’s REU summer student, Rodriguez Exilus! June 29th, 2010

Rodriguez Exilus is a sophomore at Bunker Hill Community College, where he is currently focusing on a Biology Transfer Degree. At Harvard’s Disease Biophysics Group, he is working on characterizing the physical and mechanical properties of nanofibers made by Rotary Jet-Spinning for use as vascular tissue engineering scaffolds with Holly McIlwee, a DBG graduate student. Thank you, Holly, for assisting Prof. Parker in mentoring Rodriguez and best wishes to Rodriguez’s continued success!

Welcome DBG’s REU summer student, Barthalomew Sillah! June 28th, 2010

Barthalomew Sillah is from Milwaukee, WI. He is a rising junior at Harvard, pursuing a degree in Human Development and Regenerative Biology with a secondary in Health Policy. At Harvard’s Disease Biophysics Group, he is working  with Ph.D. Candidate, Mark Brigham. Thank you, Mark, for assisting Prof. Parker in mentoring Barthalomew and best wishes to Barthalomew’s continued success!

Welcome DBG’s REU summer student, Kunal Tiwari! June 28th, 2010

Kunal Tiwari is from Ithaca, New York. He is pursuing a Bachelors of Science at the University of Toronto with a specialist in molecular biophysics and a minor in mathematics. At Harvard’s Disease Biophysics Group, he is working to tissue engineer heart valves with DBG’s Postdoctoral fellow, Kartik Balachandran. Thank you, Kartik, for assisting Prof. Parker in mentoring Kunal and best wishes to Kunal’s continued success!

Welcome DBG’s visiting scientist, Prof. Yuan Lin! June 28th, 2010

Yuan Lin is an Assistant Professor at Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Hong Kong. He is collaborating with the Disease Biophysics Group in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University from June 14, 2010 through July 15, 2010. His research interests include cellular and molecular biomechanics, mechanics of soft materials, thin film mechanics and tribology.
